Travel in India is changing, and no, we’re not just talking about new trains or better flight connectivity. Travel over water is upgrading too. India is all set to introduce its first commercial seaplane service in Lakshadweep. Read on to know more!
India’s First Commercial Seaplane Service Gets Approval
India is about to level up its travel game with first commercial seaplane operations. These planes uses floats or a boat-like body to operate on lakes, rivers, and seas. According to NDTV, the SkyHop Aviation has received an Air Operator Certificate (AOC) from the Directorate General of Civil Aviation. What does that mean? This approval means the airline can now officially run commercial services in India. It’s also a big move towards expanding aviation beyond regular airports.
What makes this even more exciting is that the airline has already tested things on water. Earlier this month, it carried out successful take-offs and landings in Rishikesh. These trials showed that seaplane operations can actually work smoothly in India. It’s not just an idea anymore, it’s happening! SkyHop is getting ready to start full operations soon, and it will begin from Lakshadweep.

A Closer Look At India’s Seaplane Plan
The plan will connect five islands with each other and also link them to the Indian mainland. As per NDTV, the airline will start with a 19-seater aircraft. It will make travel easier in places where airports are limited. Right now, people in Lakshadweep mostly depend on boats to travel between islands, and that can take a lot of time. Seaplanes will cut down this travel time.
This service will not just help islands but also benefit remote and hard-to-reach areas across India. Places near lakes, rivers, and coastal regions can be included in this network. It can improve connectivity for both locals and tourists.
