Flight disruptions can ruin even the best-planned trips, and that’s exactly what happened on Wednesday, December 3. Many travellers had a tough day as IndiGo cancelled multiple flights flying from Bengaluru and Mumbai, citing tech issues, airport congestion and other operational challenges. Scroll down to know what happened.

IndiGo Cancels Multiple Flights

On cancelling 70 flights from Mumbai and Bengaluru, IndiGo said the disruptions were caused by technology issues, airport congestion, and other operational challenges. However, officials pointed out that a crew shortage after the new Flight Duty Time Limitations (FDTL) kicked in on November 1 also added to the problem, reported Hindustan Times. The FDTL rules restrict how long pilots and cabin crew can work to ensure proper rest and safety.

The sudden cancellations disrupted many travel plans. IndiGo said its teams are working continuously to bring operations back to normal as soon as possible. The airline has also apologised for the inconvenience caused to passengers and is offering alternative flights or refunds.

Delhi Airport Issues Advisory

According to the Civil Aviation Ministry, IndiGo’s On-Time Performance at major metro airports shockingly dropped to 35% on Tuesday. This drop shows how widespread the delays were. Officials also said the airline cancelled 42 flights from Bengaluru and 32 from Mumbai because of crew shortages. These cancellations left passengers stranded, facing long waits, unexpected changes and uncertainty about their travel plans.

As per Hindustan Times, IndiGo has also asked passengers to check their flight status on its website before leaving for the airport. Doing this will help reduce crowding and avoid unnecessary trouble for customers.

Due to these unforeseen circumstances, airports also issued alerts. Delhi airport posted on X that some airlines were facing operational challenges, which could cause delays or schedule changes. In the post, they also mentioned that ground teams are coordinating closely with all airlines to ensure smooth passenger movement and keep travellers informed.

Besides IndiGo, other airlines also faced delays on Tuesday night. A global outage of Amadeus, the software many airlines use for check-ins, disrupted operations for about an hour. Air India, Akasa Air, and SpiceJet were affected, and passengers at several airports reported long queues and slow processing during this time.
