IndiGo Employee Resigns After Being Asked To Touch A Senior’s Feet

In an Instagram video shared by an ex-IndiGo employee, Mohammad Jamshid Y, who was employed as a ground staff member at Bengaluru’s Kempegowda International Airport, talked about his experience and revealed the challenges faced by airport employees that often go unnoticed by passengers.

Jamshid shared a story of how he quit his dream job, as he was asked to touch his supervisor’s feet as an apology. According to Jamshid, the incident took place during a routine terminal inspection at Terminal 1. He stated that the Director noticed that he was not wearing a tie and questioned him about it.

“I immediately accepted my mistake, apologised and explained that I had unintentionally forgotten to wear my tie. I assured him it would not happen again,” Jamshid said. He further stated that the official then summoned his supervisor and questioned why she had allowed him to enter the terminal without a tie. After his supervisor apologised, Jamshid said he was also asked to apologise to her, which he did.

However, he claimed the situation got worse when the official allegedly instructed him to touch his supervisor’s feet as a gesture of apology. “I found this deeply humiliating and degrading in a professional workplace, so I respectfully refused,” he said, adding that he was then asked to leave the terminal. In the video, Jamshid said, “I have my self-respect above everything else. I couldn’t do it.” He maintained that while forgetting to wear the tie was his mistake, any disciplinary action should have been dealt with professionally.

IndiGo Took No Action Against It

Following the incident, Jamshid said he filed a complaint with IndiGo’s Ethics and Compliance department after having talked about the matter with his colleagues. While he appreciated the airline for investigating the complaint, he claimed he was disappointed with the outcome. According to him, he was informed that investigators could not verify his presence in Terminal 1 on the day of the incident using the available CCTV footage.
