Indian airports have been in chaos over the past few days, leaving many IndiGo passengers stranded. The airline has delayed and cancelled hundreds of flights. From December 8, IndiGo will reduce some flights to manage the situation and expects to return to normal operations by 2026. Scroll down for more details.
IndiGo To Reduce Flight Operations
From December 8, 2025, IndiGo plans to cut flights, aiming to return to normal operations by February 10, 2026. According to the Economic Times, this follows a surge in cancellations over recent days, including more than 500 flights being cancelled in a single day across major airports, namely Delhi, Bengaluru, Hyderabad, and Chennai. Some flights were delayed by more than 12 hours.
The daily chaos prompted the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) and the civil aviation ministry to review the situation with IndiGo. Officials said the disruptions were caused by planning gaps during the rollout of the second phase of Flight Duty Time Limitations (FDTL) rules. This rule has increased crew requirements that IndiGo had not fully anticipated.
IndiGo has begun corrective measures but expects more cancellations as it adjusts operations. To come up with a solution, the DGCA has asked the airline for a detailed plan. This plan will cover crew hiring, aircraft induction, training, roster restructuring, and safety measures.
