Ice cream has always been one dessert we usually crave after a delicious meal, during a bad mood, or just when we feel like having it. It happens to me too! However, no matter how good it tastes, we’ve always heard that it has too much sugar and should be enjoyed once in a while. But recent research has shown a different side. Scroll down to know!
What Are The Effects Of Ice Cream On Health?
During this recent research, scientists found a link between ice cream and health outcomes. As per Slurrp, long-term studies like the Nurses’ Health Study and the Health Professionals Follow-Up Study have been tracking people’s diets and health for years. When they looked at people with type 2 diabetes, they found something quite surprising. Those who ate ice cream a few times a week showed about a 12% lower risk of cardiovascular disease compared to those who rarely had it.
This sounds exciting, but there’s a catch. These studies are observational. That means they only show patterns, not direct cause and effect. So, we cannot say ice cream improves health. Scientists are now trying to understand the effect. One possible reason is dairy. Ice cream contains nutrients like calcium, protein, and certain fats. These can affect how the body handles metabolism.

More On This Research
Another point researchers mention is the glycemic response. As per Slurrp, ice cream may not spike blood sugar as quickly as expected. Its fat and protein content can slow down sugar absorption in the body. There’s also something called the milk-fat-globule membrane. This is a natural structure found in dairy fat. Some experts believe it may influence inflammation and fat processing in the body. However, research on this is still ongoing. They believe the results may not be because of ice cream alone. Instead, people who eat ice cream in moderation might already have healthier lifestyles
Even though the research sounds interesting, we shouldn’t forget the basics. Ice cream still has a lot of sugar and fat, so eating too much of it can harm your health over time. The main point is that no single food decides your health. What really matters is your overall diet and lifestyle. Experts say it’s okay to enjoy ice cream sometimes.
