It’s Finally Here! Mumbai Locals To Get 1st Non-AC Train With Automatic Doors: All You Need To Know

In Mumbai, local trains have always been a daily mode of transport, especially for those who want to avoid heavy traffic and travel faster. However, regular local trains can be risky, as people often hang near the doors. Now, to make Mumbaikars’ journeys safer, the city is set to introduce its first non-AC local train with automatic closed doors. Read on to know more!

Mumbai To Get Its First Non-AC Local Train

Mumbaikars can soon look forward to a safer way to travel on local trains. The city is set to get its first non-AC local with automatic doors, and honestly, it feels like a much-needed upgrade.

This new 12-car train has been built at the Integral Coach Factory in Chennai. Hindustan Times reported that it has already left the factory and should reach Central Railway around April 10 or 11. Once it gets here, officials will take it to the Kurla Carshed for inspection and then begin trials.

The idea behind this train is simple, make daily travel safer. After last year’s Mumbra incident, where overcrowding led to serious accidents, the need for better safety measures became very clear. With automatic sliding doors, this train will control how people get in and out, instead of the usual rush at open doors.

It might take some time for people to adjust to this new system, but overall, it looks like a positive step towards safer and more organised travel in Mumbai.

More About This Change In Mumbai

The project was first announced by Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw, but it didn’t move as quickly as expected. According to Hindustan Times, there were a few delays along the way. One big concern was ventilation, especially during rush hours when trains in Mumbai get super crowded. Still, the railway authorities didn’t drop the plan and decided to go ahead.

As for the train, it was sent as an empty coaching special from Southern Railway. Multiple zones, including South Central Railway, worked together to make sure it ran smoothly.

Now, once it reaches Mumbai, the process isn’t over yet. It will go through proper trials and certification before anyone can use it. Only after everything is checked and approved will it be opened for passengers. And that actually makes sense, better to test everything properly now than deal with problems later.
