Kailash Mansarovar Yatra 2026: After Indians Get Stranded In Nepal, MEA Issues Warning For Pilgrims

Kailash Mansarovar Yatra

If you’re planning the Kailash Mansarovar Yatra this season, this is for you. The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) has advised Indian pilgrims travelling through private tour operators not to begin their journey without all the required travel documents. The advisory follows multiple requests for assistance from Indian citizens stranded in Nepal after attempting the pilgrimage without the necessary permits.

MEA Issues Advisory For Kailash Mansarovar Yatra Pilgrims

Just days after the first batch of Kailash Mansarovar Yatra 2026 pilgrims entered China via the Nathu La Pass on June 20, reports emerged that 52 Indian pilgrims were stranded in Kathmandu and required immediate assistance to continue their journey.

Following this, the MEA advised Indians planning the Kailash Mansarovar Yatra not to begin their journey until they have obtained all the required travel documents, The Financial Express reported. The ministry also shared a list of mandatory documents for those travelling with private tour operators and warned pilgrims against starting the journey without the necessary permits.

The advisory comes after the MEA received several requests for assistance from Indian pilgrims who became stranded in Nepal due to the lack of mandatory permits and Chinese visas.

Verify Your Operators: MEA

Indian pilgrims have been urged to carry valid visas, entry permits, and all other approvals required for the Kailash Mansarovar Yatra. In its advisory, the MEA warned that starting the journey without confirmed documentation, or with the expectation of obtaining permits later, could significantly increase the risk of being stranded.

The ministry also advised travellers to book their pilgrimage through legitimate tour operators to ensure that all documentation, permits, and travel arrangements comply with official requirements. In the statement, they further added, “The pilgrims are also strongly advised to verify that their tour operator is duly registered and authorised.”
