Karan Johar Reveals He Has Travel Anxiety; Says, “I Check My Passport & Boarding Pass 50 Times”

Many of us suffer from travel anxiety just before boarding our flight. Seems like we are not alone. Filmmaker Karan Johar, or KJo, has now opened up about his travel trauma. He took to Instagram today to share how, just like us, even he gets anxious not just before but even during the journey. Here’s what he shared with his fans.

KJo is known for sharing his candid thoughts and opinions about various things. And now, he has bared his heart to share what he actually feels about travelling by air. In his recent Instagram post, Karan Johar wrote that this might be seen as a “champagne problem”, but he does think many will resonate with it. He then talked about experiencing major travel anxiety, which starts with a “desperate need” to reach the airport early, sometimes even before the ground staff have arrived.

But that’s not all. Karan also stated that while waiting in the lounge, he has a habit of checking his passport and boarding pass 50 times just to be sure. Seems like celebrities are just like us. We can’t help but agree that checking our boarding passes and passports multiple times is something we all do. However, travel anxiety for Karan Johar does not stop there. His comfort also depends on the pilot revealing whether the flight will be smooth or not. He wrote, “I wait for him or her to tell us about the weather en route… if we are told it’s ‘a smooth ride, I can breathe… but some pilots say “few bumps on the way,” then right through the duration I wait at the edge of the seat for those expected bumps.”

How KJo Copes During The Journey

For short-haul flights, Karan Johar often distracts himself by checking the map every 10 minutes. But the same cannot be said for long-haul flights. The filmmaker often pops a pill and “prays for sleep” to avoid being aware of turbulence. He also shared that he stays hugely polite with the cabin crew because if any emergency happens, they will be kind to him too. He wrote, “I smile like a Colgate ad! And say thank you at every given point in time.”

But his anxiety only stops when the plane finally lands, when he rushes out and overtakes every passenger like it’s a “limbo race”. Karan Johar also wrote that people are free to troll him for sharing his feelings about travel.

Many of his fans and followers flooded the comment section with their support and opinions. One wrote, “Karan, your post is literally my current reality sitting in the lounge, waiting for my flight, and I’ve already checked my boarding pass 10 times like it’s gonna grow legs and walk away.” Another commented, “Karan, it’s totally natural to feel the way you do. Safe travels (in case you’re about to board a flight).”One also wrote, “My friends laugh at me all the time, but now I can tell them I’m not the only one.”
