In a recent development, Kerala State Beverages Corporation (KSBC) has clocked in record-breaking sales. It has reported an all-time high of ₹970.64 crore in liquor sales during the 12-day Onam season. What’s more, the collections have even surpassed last year’s record by a big margin, proving that Onam is not just about food but also about celebrations! Here’s more on it.
Kerala Liquor Sales During The Onam Season
As per a report by The Hindu, in its highest-ever collection during the 12-day Onam season, KSBC (also known as BEVCO) recorded sales worth ₹970.74 crore. The sales were logged between August 25 and September 6. This marked a 9.34% increase compared to last year’s Onam sales of ₹842.07 crore.
The peak was recorded on September 4, Uthradam day, with collections of a staggering ₹137.64 crore, marking a 9.23% jump from last year’s ₹ 126.01 crore. It was followed by ₹96.52 crore on September 3 and ₹90.43 crore on September 2. This means that by Uthradam itself, KSBC had already sold liquor worth ₹826.38 crore. These Onam sales further helped to boost BEVCO’s yearly record. For 2024-25, Kerala’s liquor sales stood at ₹19,730.66 crore, rising from ₹19,069.27 crore in 2023-24, showing an annual growth of 3.5%!

Stores That Topped Sales
Talking about the outlets, the Karunagapally store in the Kollam district topped the chart. It recorded sales worth ₹1.46 crore on Uthradam day. This was followed by the Kavanad Ashraman outlet in Kollam with ₹1.24 crore and the Kuttippala Edappal outlet in Malappuram, which registered sales of ₹1.11 crore.
As per the same report, the state currently has 278 BEVCO outlets along with self-service stores. All these stores remained closed on Onam day itself across the state. Yet, the festive rush in the days leading up to it ensured record numbers. This clearly shows that festival days mean more celebrations in Kerala and reflects how liquor has become a major part of festive spending.
