Around 10,000 kg of expired dates were found being repackaged for Holi and Ramadan in Uttar Pradesh’s Kanpur. Not just that, authorities also found 675 kg of adulterated khoya. The samples were recently sent for laboratory analysis. Here’s what we know about this incident so far.

Expired Dates & Adulterated Khoya Found In Kanpur Food Raid

Recent raids by food safety officials in Kanpur have led to shocking discoveries. According to a report by The Times of India, officials seized a consignment of expired dates weighing around 10,000 kg and worth nearly ₹50 lakh from a wholesaler during the raid. Officials have sent nine samples for laboratory analysis. Authorities will take legal action against the accused after they receive the report.

Reportedly, traders used fake labels and stickers on the date boxes to pass them off as freshly procured stock. But it was not just dates. Officials also discovered around 675 kg of adulterated khoya at another location. Authorities destroyed the entire consignment. Moreover, food safety officials also seized and destroyed adulterated supari (betel nuts) worth more than ₹2 lakh.

Authorities Urge Public To Stay Alert 

These discoveries are undoubtedly shocking. Teams from the Food Safety and Drug Administration department conducted the raids across various parts of Kanpur ahead of Ramadan and Holi. According to a report by The Times of India, authorities have urged the public to pay special attention to food packaging, expiry dates and quality before making any purchases.

People should also immediately inform the department if they find expired products in the market. This will allow officials to take timely action. This incident once again highlights how some traders take advantage of festivals to sell expired and adulterated products to unsuspecting consumers just to earn money. The campaign started by the department is set to continue in the coming days to curb food adulteration.
