Work on the much-awaited Gorakhpur-Siliguri Expressway Greenfield project has picked up speed. But now, instead of passing through Deoria, the expressway will be rerouted through the eastern part of Thakurganj. The expressway, being built at a cost of ₹32,000 crore, is slated for completion by 2028. Here are all the details you need to know about the project.

Work On Gorakhpur-Siliguri Expressway Gains Pace

According to a report by India TV News, the expressway will have six lanes and will pass through 56 villages. It will connect eight zones of the district. The expressway will connect Gorakpur in Uttar Pradesh to Siliguri in West Bengal

A High-Speed Corridor To Redefine Connectivity

The Gorakhpur-Siliguri Expressway will pass through Uttar Pradesh, Bihar and West Bengal. In Bihar, it will cover 416.2 km and touch districts including West Champaran, Sitamarhi, Sheohar, Madhubani, Supaul, Araria and Kishanganj. The expressway will allow speeds of up to 120 km per hour. Initially, it will have four lanes, but authorities plan to expand it to six later.  The revised alignment means the expressway will now pass through Kishanganj before entering West Bengal.

As per a report by DNA India that this change is expected to open up fresh development opportunities for border areas, including Thakurganj. The project is set to redefine the economic, social and geographical landscape of the region. It will boost the local economy and create employment in communities. The expressway will also benefit Nepal by offering faster access to India’s northeastern states.
