Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose International Airport in Kolkata has expanded passenger facilities at its terminal. The move aims to tackle peak-hour crowds and make travel much smoother for passengers. Not just that, this move is also expected to increase the airport’s annual passenger handling capacity.
Kolkata Airport Expands Terminal Space
According to The Indian Express, these infrastructure improvements at Kolkata’s Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose International (NSCBI) Airport will increase the airport’s passenger handling capacity from 26 million to 28 million passengers annually. The terminal expansion will also help improve passenger comfort, optimise operations and make travel smoother for many passengers at Kolkata Airport.
Reportedly, an additional area of 966 square metres has been commissioned at the departure level of the existing terminal building. The new space will have more seating capacity in the domestic departure area as well as the swing gate zone, which serves both domestic and international passengers at the airport.

The Enhancements Aim To Improve Passenger Convenience
According to The Indian Express, the international departure section of the terminal has also been expanded by 3,000 square metres. This area will facilitate the re-routing of international passengers and the relocation of Immigration, Customs and pre-embarkation security check facilities. The restructuring at the airport is definitely going to ease passenger flow.
According to The Telegraph, the Airports Authority of India (AAI), which operates the airport, has stated that these upgrades and expansions will help the airport handle increasing passenger traffic more efficiently. Plus, it will also help enhance overall passenger convenience, reduce travel time and make airport operations more efficient. Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose International Airport in Kolkata is considered one of the busiest airports in eastern India. It serves both domestic and international destinations.
