But did you know that one of our favourites, kathi roll has earned global recognition by securing the 6th spot in TasteAtlas’s list of the Best Wraps in the World? Indian Wrap Makes It To The Best Wraps In The World
As Indians, we’re proud to know that Kathi Roll—a popular street food especially in Kolkata is now on the Top 10 list of Best wraps in the world. This food item has secured 6th position in the list. This street food has tasty kebab or other filling wrapped inside a soft paratha, perfect to enjoy anytime and anywhere. You’ll find countless stalls and restaurants in Kolkata selling kathi rolls — from small street vendors to fancy cafes. Some of the most loved fillings include chicken tikka, paneer, and mutton kofta. Also, the chicken kathi roll ranked 14th on the list, giving another proud moment to all Indians.
The Kathi Roll was first made in Kolkata in the 1930s at the famous Nizam’s restaurant, started by Raza Hassan Saheb. It was created to make kebabs easier to eat on the go for busy British officers and locals. Earlier, the kebabs were cooked on iron skewers, but in 1964, they were replaced with bamboo sticks — that’s when the name ‘Kathi’, which means ‘stick’ in Bengali, was introduced.

The ‘Best Wraps In The World’ list has a total of 20 wraps from across the world. On top, we have Gyros from Greece. It is a popular street food and you can enjoy it in any part of the city. As for the second number, we had Sangchu Ssam from South Korea which is prepared with various ingredients wrapped in fresh lettuce leaves. The other wraps in the list are:
