Around 10 lakh devotees reportedly took a holy dip at the Sangam Ghats in Prayagraj on Sunday on the occasion of Maha Shivratri. This marked the final ‘snan parv’ of the annual Magh Mela. According to Hindustan Times, pilgrims began to arrive early in the morning. The ghats were filled with chants and prayers across the banks. This is not something new, as the last day of the mela traditionally draws huge crowds every year. X user, @awanishvidyarth, posted a video showing devotees gathered at the banks of Prayagraj.
All safety measures were in place. Uttar Pradesh ATS mobile patrol squads were also deployed. Proper arrangements were made to manage crowd movement. But the celebrations of Maha Shivratri were not just limited to Prayagraj. In Varanasi too, long queues were seen outside the Kashi Vishwanath Temple as devotees waited to offer their prayers.
