The Karnataka government has now announced a major project for Mangaluru. The authorities are planning a ‘Mangaluru Eye’, a massive landmark inspired by iconic towers around the world to boost tourist footfall in the city. Here’s what we know about this much-anticipated project so far.
‘Mangaluru Eye’ Coming Soon In Mangaluru?
According to The Times of India, a five-acre plot owned by the horticulture department at Kadri has been identified to construct ‘Mangaluru Eye’. The 42-storey landmark tower will be 200 metres tall. It will be developed under a public-private partnership (PPP) model at a cost of ₹350 crore. The project will offer panoramic views of Mangaluru and its coastline. Plus, it is also expected to boost tourism in the city.
Now, let’s talk about the tower. Mangaluru Eye will feature a lighthouse on the 42nd floor, an open terrace, observation decks, a two-level gallery with 360-degree views and a skywalk. In addition to this, the tower will also have a food court and a revolving restaurant for visitors.

Landmark Inspired By Iconic Towers Around The World
According to The Times of India, the concept to build a Mangaluru Eye is inspired by iconic towers in other countries which attract many tourists. A blueprint was prepared nearly 18 months ago with the help of an architect. Once the work finally begins, the tower is expected to take at least three years to complete.
Authorities expect the project to help place Mangaluru on the global tourism map while boosting trade and business in the region. Moreover, it will also help create job opportunities for locals. The project is still in its initial stages and has its own challenges to face. This includes rising heat, poor roads, inadequate drainage and garbage management issues.
