Abu Dhabi’s pet owners have a free, no-registration-required event to look forward to this weekend. Abu Dhabi City Municipality is hosting a three-day Pet Lovers’ Gathering at Al Shamkha Square from Friday, September 25 to Sunday, September 27. Entry is open to everyone, pets included, and there’s no need to sign up in advance.

The gathering runs every evening from 5pm to 9pm, from Friday, September 25 to Sunday, September 27, at Al Shamkha Square, Abu Dhabi. Entry is free.
What’s Happening
There will be pet adoption on site for anyone considering bringing a new animal home, along with pet registration for existing owners. Awareness workshops will run alongside entertainment shows and interactive activities designed for the wider community, not just current pet owners.
The municipality hasn’t yet released a full hour-by-hour schedule, so it’s worth checking timings for specific shows and workshops on the day.
Why The Registration Service Matters
For existing pet owners, the on-site registration is arguably the most useful part of the event.
Abu Dhabi runs its Animal Ownership System through the Department of Municipalities and Transport, under which owners register cats and dogs for identification, health records and welfare tracking.
This is normally handled through a veterinary clinic using an Emirates ID, UAE Pass and the TAMM platform, along with proof of ownership such as a pet passport. Having this service available at a free public event saves owners a separate clinic visit, a step many tend to put off.
A Note For Adopters
Anyone planning to adopt at the event should know that ownership transfers to them once the adoption is finalised. They will also take on all legal responsibility for the animal. It’s also worth carrying vaccination records, particularly if you plan to use the on-site registration service.
