According to India Today, Mark Zuckerberg and his wife, Priscilla Chan, have added a sprawling 440-acre castle estate in Ireland to their property portfolio. Located in County Waterford, Strancally Castle sits on the banks of the River Blackwater and was built around 1830 for John Keily, a former Tory MP.
Despite buying a castle there, Zuckerberg and Chan are expected to continue living in the US. The Irish estate will instead be used when the couple visits the country.
A spokesperson for Zuckerberg said that the family is looking forward to caring for the historic home and spending time in Ireland, where Meta has its international headquarters. Strancally Castle is located around 200 km from Meta’s European headquarters in Dublin, where the company has maintained its international base since 2009.
440 Acres Of Land, River Views & A Gothic Design
The Gothic-style property was designed by architects James and George Richard Pain and has since undergone extensive restoration. The three-storey castle itself spans around 16,000 square feet, while the surrounding estate covers a massive 440 acres.
And the scale of the property is quite something. Reports about the castle have noted that it takes several minutes to walk from the kitchen to the dining room — giving you an idea of just how sprawling this historic home is.
The property was previously owned by Michael Alen-Buckley, co-founder of private investment firm RAB Capital, and his wife, Giancarla. The couple had owned the estate for around 25 years and carried out extensive restoration work on the historic property.

It is worth noting that this Irish castle is far from Mark Zuckerberg’s first extravagant real estate purchase, but adding a centuries-old castle to his portfolio certainly sounds like quite the upgrade.
