Traffic congestion in Mumbai is no joke. It has been a major issue in the city, affecting daily commuters, office-goers, and residents. Recently, Radhika Gupta, Managing Director and CEO of Edelweiss Mutual Fund, brought attention to this problem, highlighting the extreme delays faced by people in the city. Keep reading for more details.
CEO Highlights Daily Delays Due To Mumbai Traffic
In a recent X (formerly Twitter) post, Nilesh Shah (@NileshShah68) shared his experience at the One BKC junction signal. He wrote, “Record at One BKC junction signal. Eight minutes for the red signal to turn green. The traffic warden happily allows traffic to criss-cross and block the junction. (Any way no one listened to him). There should be a penalty for blocking the junction, like in the Middle East. Don’t move ahead blocking the junction if you don’t have a clear passage.”
As a response to Nilesh Shah’s X post, Radhika Gupta (@iRadhikaGupta) called Lower Parel ‘Slower Parel’. In her post, she revealed that it takes at least 45 minutes to cover a distance of just 2 km from Parel to Lower Parel during peak traffic. Gupta also pointed out that rules regarding no-parking zones and one-way streets were meant to handle one-way traffic and compensate for the closure of the Elphinstone Bridge, but these regulations are not being enforced effectively. Mumbai Traffic Police also responded to Radhika Gupta’s post and wrote that they had informed the concerned Traffic Division to take necessary action.
Radhika Gupta’s response to Nilesh Shah has quickly caught the attention of many X users. And it’s not shocking that many of them agree with her claims and shared their frustration about the city traffic in the post’s comments section.
One user wrote, “Please come to Gurgaon. Firstly, there are no roads. In case you get one, there are no junctions & traffic police are nowhere to be seen. Sab Chal raha hai – auto pilot pe.”
Commenting on Mumbai’s traffic issue, one user said, “It’s a citywide issue. The cops, government officials, politicians, taxis, students—no one follows basic rules or laws, citing a false sense of entitlement. I travel daily to Churchgate and Fort, and it’s the same scene there—illegal parking, one-way used as two-way, double parking.”
