Thane Metro Plans Kalwa-Mumbra-Diva Corridor
According to a Hindustan Times report, the state government has appointed an agency to conduct a feasibility study and prepare a Detailed Project Report (DPR) for the proposed metro corridor within the next six months. The decision was taken during a meeting chaired by Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde in Mumbai on August 3. Once completed, the project is expected to strengthen connectivity across the Mumbai Metropolitan Region.
Speaking to HT, an official said the new corridor aims to ease the burden on the city’s overcrowded suburban railway network. The proposed route has been planned through Kolbad and old Thane to improve connectivity while minimising disruption to residents. It is also expected to reduce road congestion.
As per reports, land acquisition is likely to be relatively easier, as much of the proposed alignment passes through open land. Key details such as the project’s cost, final alignment and construction timeline will be finalised after the DPR is ready.

Mumbai-Ahmedabad Bullet Train Link On The Cards
Here’s something even more exciting for travellers! The proposed Thane Metro line will connect with the Mumbai-Ahmedabad High-Speed Rail Corridor near Mhatardi in Diva, making it easier for passengers travelling to and from Gujarat. It will also link to Metro 12 (Kalyan-Taloja Metro) at Manpada, creating a seamless network connecting Thane, Kalwa, Mumbra, Diva, Dombivli, Kalyan, Bhiwandi and Taloja.
