Mumbai: Colaba To NMIA In Just 16 Min? Water Taxi In 2027 To Cut Travel Time

Maharashtra is planning something big! The authorities are planning a water taxi from Colaba to the new Navi Mumbai International Airport, allowing travellers to skip city traffic and take a boat directly to catch their flights. The service is expected to become operational by 2027. Here’s everything you need to know.

Water Taxi From Colaba To Navi Mumbai International Airport

In an interview with The Free Press Journal, Maharashtra’s Ports Development and Fisheries Minister Nitesh Narayan Rane revealed that the jetty at the Radio Club near the Gateway of India will be completed by December 2027. It will allow travellers to reach Navi Mumbai International Airport (NMIA) from Colaba in just 16 minutes. This means people catching flights from NMIA will be able to skip road traffic and travel directly via the water route. It will definitely save a lot of time.

The project is worth ₹196 crore and is quite crucial for Mumbai. Furthermore, the Mumbai Water Metro Project will be introduced in 2028 and will connect the entire Mumbai Metropolitan Region. Passengers will be able to travel from Nariman Point to Juhu, Worli, Versova and more by water route.

South Mumbai’s Aquarium To Get A World-Class Transformation

Minister Nitesh Narayan Rane also shared with The Free Press Journal that sea transport is a good option to tackle the growing traffic problem in Mumbai. Moreover, the refurbished Mumbai-Goa Highway is almost ready and will soon open for motorists.

Moreover, there is one more update! South Mumbai’s iconic Taraporewala Aquarium, which has remained closed since the COVID-19 pandemic, is set for a major transformation. Authorities are planning to turn it into a world-class marine attraction for locals and tourists alike. It will feature around 38,000 varieties of fish and immersive visitor experiences, including scuba diving.
