Mumbai CSMIA Airport Preps For Monsoon Season, Plans 6-Hour Runway Maintenance On May 7

Mumbai’s CSMIA Plans Pre-Monsoon Runway Maintenance

At Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (CSMIA), authorities have scheduled their annual pre-monsoon runway maintenance on May 7, 2026. The work will take place between 11 AM and 5 PM. During these six hours, both runways, primary runway 09/27 and secondary runway 14/32, will remain temporarily closed.

CSMIA didn’t leave things for the last minute; it actually planned everything well in advance. Officials began coordinating with airlines and key stakeholders almost six months ago, which honestly makes a big difference. Because of this early planning, airlines already had enough time to bring change in their flight schedules. So, for passengers, this mostly means less chaos and fewer surprises.

How Will Authorities Conduct The Maintenance Check?

Before the rain hit, experts give the runways a proper check to spot any wear and tear. If something needs fixing, they handle it right away. It’s all done to make sure flights can take off and land safely, even during heavy rain, because no one wants travel disruptions once the monsoon kicks in.

To complete the work efficiently, CSMIA will use modern machinery and follow a detailed execution plan. Teams will closely monitor every step of the process. Their goal is to finish all tasks within the fixed six hours without delays.

The airport has also worked closely with multiple stakeholders, including aviation authorities and airline operators. This strong coordination helps maintain smooth operations, even during temporary closures.
