In a recent accident, the Mumbai-Pune Expressway witnessed unusually heavy traffic from Friday night, and shockingly, the chaos continued till Saturday morning. An X user, Rushikesh Agre (@rushikesh_agre_), who was stuck in the traffic jam, took to his social handle to share his experience around 1 AM. He said the expressway looked like a “full traffic festival”. The user also tagged the authorities and joked that he was “done with this chaos subscription”. His words reflected what regular travellers on this route already know—delays on this expressway have become far too common.
The situation did not improve by morning. Around 11 AM, Agre posted another update with a screenshot from Google Maps. The map showed a long red line, which means severe congestion on both the old and new Mumbai–Pune highways. The traffic was especially bad near the ghat sections, which often slow down during weekends, reported the Free Press Journal. However, many commuters said this jam felt much worse than usual.

Vehicles Barely Moved For Long Periods
In his post, the X user also shared that the previous night’s journey from this expressway had stretched for long hours. Normally, this route doesn’t take that much time. Many drivers said their cars barely moved for long periods, leaving them stuck in traffic with no progress. The update about the massive traffic jam quickly went viral, and people flooded the comments with reactions, tips, and possible reasons behind the gridlock.
These kinds of traffic situations make anyone think twice or even thrice before heading out. Authorities have not yet released an official statement about what caused the congestion. However, heavy weekend traffic and ongoing repair work are often known to slow down movement on these highways.
