We have some news for all the Mumbai local train users. Western Railway is set to suspend local train services between Goregaon and Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (CSMT) for the next three months. This move will impact 88 local services daily. Now, if you’re wondering what’s the reason behind this decision, then keep scrolling.
Bandra-Khar Bridge Reconstruction To Disrupt Travel
According to The Economic Times, these services will be affected due to the demolition and reconstruction of the Bandra-Khar railway bridge. Reports suggest that this block period was initially planned for six months. However, keeping in mind how this will greatly impact lakhs of commuters, it was reduced to three months.
The railway bridge is a crucial part of the ₹964.84 crore project to add fifth and sixth railway lines between Mumbai Central and Borivali, the ET report suggested. This will improve the efficiency and most importantly, reduce congestion on the suburban network.

88 Mumbai Local Trains To Be Suspended For 3 Months
Earlier, 200-250 local trains were suspended daily between December and January on the Kandivali-Borivali section. With that phase now complete, authorities have shifted work to the Goregaon-CSMT stretch. The good news is that local train services will continue to operate between Bandra and CSMT.
The Western Railway expansion project, approved at a cost of ₹964.84 crore, will require the suspension of 88 local trains running between Goregaon and CSMT for the next three months.
