As per Hindustan Times, the MMRC announced plans to build a ropeway system that will connect Aarey–JVLR Metro Station to Sanjay Gandhi National Park via Film City. This ropeway will be 3 km long. It aims to increase tourism, enhance last-mile connectivity, and increase the number of daily riders using the Metro three Aqua Line. The new project is also looking forward to attracting film city professionals.

Mumbai is not only famous for its tasty street food and tourist spots, but also for its massive traffic. To ensure a smooth and hassle-free travel experience daily, the authorities have planned to install a ropeway. It will help clear out traffic on major roads like the Goregaon–Mulund Link Road.

Everything About The Ropeway Project

Talking about the upcoming Mumbai ropeway project, MMRC officials mentioned that it will not cause any harm to the environment and requires minimal land acquisition. Hindustan Times revealed that the ropeway is expected to carry 2,000 to 3,000 passengers per hour. However, the authorities have still not decided whether to go with mono-cable, bi-cable, or tri-cable gondola technology.

This new project in Mumbai is under a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model. It will follow the DBFOT (Design, Build, Finance, Operate, and Transfer) framework. This means private companies will share financial responsibilities and will help operate the ropeway.

Apart from the ropeway, MMRC is also planning a feeder bus service for better access to the Metro’s three stations.

In 2025, governments are planning various ropeway projects, and among them, two major projects are 2 km-long ropeways in Shillong that will connect tourist sites, and a 12.9 km ropeway in Kedarnath to cut travel time.
