Mumbaicha Raja From Ganesh Galli Sets A World Record
Mumbaicha Raja, the popular Ganesh idol of the Ganesh Galli Mandal in Lalbaug, Mumbai, is one of the city’s oldest Ganesh mandals. Known for its magnificent and creative themes every year, it attracts thousands of devotees, including celebrities, during Ganesh Chaturthi celebrations. Established in 1928, Mumbaicha Raja has now earned recognition from the UK’s Global Book of Excellence for its creativity.
The Lalbaug Public Festival Board’s Mumbaicha Raja has achieved two remarkable feats. One for its tallest idol legacy, upholding the tradition of the tallest Ganesh idol since 1977, and another for having the world’s largest 24-carat gold necklace by a public organisation. The necklace weighs 5 kg and is 12 feet long, making it one of the heaviest and largest worldwide.
The official Instagram page of Mumbaicha Raja shared the good news and wrote, “World record in the name of Mumbai’s King! Lalbagh Public Festival Board, known as ‘Mumbai’ at Ganesh Galli, has been awarded a World Record Certificate from England’s organisation ‘Global Book of Excellence’.” They further added, “Three congratulations to all the Mumbai Raja devotees, activists, classmates, donors, well-wishers and devotees in the circle!”

The Mandal Has A Unique Idol Every Year
But these are not the only two things that make the Mumbaicha Raja Ganesh idol unique. Another speciality of this idol is that it is made completely by hand and without any moulds, yet the sculptor manages to create it with perfection every time.
For Ganesh Chaturthi 2025 celebrations, the idol stands at 22 feet and is themed around the Rameshwaram Temple in Tamil Nadu. It offers devotees a unique South Indian temple experience. This is undoubtedly an amazing achievement. It places our festivals on the global map. Moreover, it also honours the creativity, effort and hard work that go into sculpting these idols.
The Ganesh Utsav this year has surely lit up the hearts of devotees with this achievement!
