1. Naini Lake

You will hear a lot about Tallital and Mallital while visiting Nainital. The Naina Devi Temple, one of the 51 Shakti Peethas in Hindu mythology, is located on the Mallital side of Naini Lake. This Hindu temple is not just any regular Hindu temple. Legend has it that Sati, a Hindu deity, lost her eyes (nain) there as her distressed husband, Shiva, was carrying her burnt body. One of the main factors contributing to Nainital’s constant popularity as a tourist destination is the temple’s year-round accessibility to visitors.
2. Devprayag
Devprayag in Uttarakhand is another important Hindu pilgrimage location. Here, the River Alaknanda and Bhagirathi converge to form the River Ganga. For those seeking more in-depth experience, Devprayag’s two libraries have some extremely rare, old manuscripts, mostly in Hindi and Garhwali. The location is relatively well-connected by a national highway and is around 70 miles from Rishikesh.

3. Dwarka
Dwarka, one of the oldest cities in the nation, is as mythological as it gets. It is also well-known for being one of the Char Dhams, the four main Hindu pilgrimage sites. Its name, which translates to “Gateway to Heaven,” is thought to be that of the Hindu deity Krishna. Additionally, it is reported that Krishna appropriated 12 acres from the sea using his divine abilities to construct Dwarka.
4. Chitrakoot
Chitrakoot, which is home to many revered Hindu temples, is located between the Indian states of Uttar Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh. This location is essential if you want to learn more about Hindu mythology. According to popular belief, this is the location of Bharat Milaap, where Rama’s friend Bharat visited him and convinced him to return to their kingdom of Ayodhya following the death of King Dashratha.
5. Dandakaranya
Dandakaranya, which is currently in Chhattisgarh, is thought to be the woodland where Ravana kidnapped Sita in the Hindu epic Ramayana. Due to its association with the Ramayana, Hindus consider it to be a location of penance. The region, which spans 92200 square kilometres, also comprises portions of Andhra Pradesh, Chattisgarh, Telangana, and Odisha.
6. Rameshwaram
Rameswaram, which is a stop on the Char Dham pilgrimage, is regarded by Hindus as one of the holiest locations in India, along with Varanasi. The Ramayana claims that Rama constructed a bridge from a location close to this town across the sea to Lanka in order to save his wife Sita from Ravana, who had kidnapped her. The town’s focal point is a temple devoted to the Hindu deity Shiva that has a tight connection to both Shiva and Rama. For Shaivas and Vaishnavas, the temple and the town are revered as sacred pilgrimage locations.
