What Is The History Of Jacaranda Bloom Season?

The jacaranda tree originally comes from Central and South America. It was introduced to Munnar, Kerala, by the British during their colonial period as an ornamental plant. Over time, it spread across the region and is now commonly seen along roads and covering the hills, especially during its two-month bloom season.

People know the jacaranda tree scientifically as Jacaranda mimosifolia and planted it to beautify the scenic landscapes. Locals in Munnar call it “Neelavaka,” which means “blue tree” in Malayalam. The name perfectly reflects its vibrant blue-purple flowers that add a magical touch to the surroundings.
