We’ve always believed there’s no single way to connect with the divine. Everyone expresses their spirituality differently, and bhajan clubbing is one such example. This Gen Z take on ‘kirtan’ has struck a chord with the masses, and it looks like it even caught the attention of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
PM Modi Praises Bhajan Clubbing In The Country
On Mann Ki Baat, Prime Minister Narendra Modi spoke about ‘bhajan clubbing’, the Gen Z-led movement and how it blends modernity with spirituality. While addressing the nation, he lauded the rising trend among the youth and spoke about how each generation has its own way of connecting with God, and Gen Z have found their own unique way, which looks nothing less than a concert.
“Our Gen-Z is taking to Bhajan Clubbing…it is spirituality and modernity merging beautifully, particularly keeping in mind the sanctity of the Bhajans,” PM Modi said on the show. “The stage is decorated. There are lights, music, and other arrangements, and the atmosphere is no less than a concert. But whatever is sung there with complete dedication, devotion and rhythm is the resonance of bhajans,” he added in Hindi.

Combining Modernity With Spirituality
PM Modi emphasised how in bhajan clubbing, devotion is still the centre-stage! “Neither the sanctity of words nor the depth of feeling is compromised. The stage may be modern, the musical presentation may be different, but the core spirit remains the same, and a continuous flow of spirituality is experienced there,” he said.
At bhajan clubbing sessions, Gen Z and millennials gather in dimly lit halls, sitting cross-legged on the floor as they sway and clap along to bhajans. Unlike traditional silent prayer meetings, these cosy jam nights or mini music gigs fuse devotional songs with electronic beats.
