K. Bijay Kumar Reddy, a 23-year-old artist from Odisha, has made India proud by setting a new Guinness World Record for crafting the world’s smallest wooden spoon. The artist comes from the Ganjam district and is as an electrical engineer. The miniature spoon measures only 1.13 millimetres in length, and is so small that you need a microscope to look at it.
In the video shared by Guinness World Record, Bijay can be seen making the tiny spoon. For this, he chose a small piece of fine wood and carved it carefully using miniature tools. After shaping and polishing it, he measured the spoon precisely to meet the record standards.
With this new length, the Indian artist has broken the previous record of 1.64 millimetres. The previous record was held by an artist from Bihar. In talks with NDTV, the artist mentioned that making something this small required a lot of patience, focus, and a steady hand. The process was so delicate that he even had to build his own special tools to work on the spoon, as regular instruments were too big for the fine details.
Indian Artist’s Efforts And Hard Work
As per NDTV, Reddy’s passion for miniature art started during his college days. He was a part of his college’s art club, where he discovered his love for creating micro-sculptures. He is now widely known as the ‘Odisha Chalk Artist’ because of his earlier works. His works include detailed carvings of famous personalities, cricketers, and even a tiny version of the Ram Temple in Ayodhya — all made on chalk pieces.
On setting a new Guinness World Record, the artist revealed that he spent three months perfecting the tiny spoon. Later, he finally submitted it to the team in January. After thorough verification, his work was officially recognised as the smallest wooden spoon ever made. Apart from this, he has also applied for five more world records, which are currently being reviewed.
We are proud of this Indian artist and can’t wait to see more of his amazing works.
