“People Forced To Carry Heavy Bags Down”: Journalist Slams Mumbai Metro 3 For Not Having Escalators; Netizens React

The newly launched Mumbai Metro Line 3 aka Aqua Line has already gotten into its fair share of debate just weeks after its inauguration. An independent journalist, Kunal Purohit, took to X to reveal that the metro line doesn’t have escalators, leaving commuters with no choice but to lug their heavy suitcases down staircases. Here’s what he said.

Journalist Criticses Mumbai Metro Line 3 For Not Having Escalators

Kunal Purohit, an independent journalist, left no stone unturned in slamming the new Mumbai Metro Line 3 for lacking basic amenities. In his post on X, he pointed out that the metro line connects to the airport terminals. Yet, there are no escalators for people to descend. Commuters have to carry heavy bags and walk down staircases. Moreover, Purohit pointed out that pavements outside stations don’t exist either.

To express his frustration and prove his point, he shared an image of two commuters (whose faces remain hidden), lifting heavy suitcases and walking down stairs. Behind them, other passengers are seen following suit. A man carries one bag on his shoulder and lifts another. The journalist tagged Mumbai Metro 3 and the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation’s official handles.

Netizens Express Their Frustrations

In no time, the journalist’s post went viral, garnering similar reactions from Netizens. Many expressed their frustration. A Netizen, Rajat Rawat, revealed that he was faced with the same situation on the Aqua Line. He shared that at the airport metro terminal, he couldn’t get any network. Moreover, the staff apparently told him not to carry his luggage into the metro, which connected to the airport. So, the Netizen had to carry his 25 kg suitcase down the stairs.

To this, Kunal Purohit wondered if metro staff believe people go to the airports for meals and evening walks. Another person wondered how specially-abled people would manage without basic escalators. A Netizen opined that it’s not just the case in Mumbai, airports and metros abroad do not have descending escalators as well. And many a time, she had to carry her suitcase down the stairs.
Meanwhile, have you travelled by Mumbai Metro Line 3 and faced similar problems?
