One of the most beautiful and aesthetic destinations in South India is Pondicherry. This place has always left us awestruck with its French architecture, beaches, and charming eateries. If you’re planning a trip to Pondicherry soon but aren’t sure if the experience will be like the one you see in reels and photos, an X user has shared a couple of things that will help you. Here’s what you can expect from your Pondicherry trip!

What To Expect From A Pondicherry Trip?

X user Somya (@Somya_Crazy) took to X to share what travellers can expect on their Pondicherry trip. From beaches and cafes to nightlife and surfing, here’s what you should know before planning your visit.

1. Not so swim-friendly

Don’t expect to spend your day sipping beers by the sea and ending it with a sunset swim. The beaches in Pondicherry aren’t really swim-friendly because of jellyfish. You might even get jellyfish stung.

2. It is aesthetic

Pondicherry really does look as pretty as it does on Instagram. The French-style buildings, colourful streets and overall vibe make it super photogenic.

3. Don’t expect a crazy nightlife

There are a few bars that stay open late, but they can feel a little shady. As per Somya, Pondicherry doesn’t really have a fun or lively nightlife scene.

4. The famous rocky beach

The rocky beach that is often seen on Instagram is definitely nice to look at, but the vibe may not be for everyone. If you want you can visit it for some time.

5. Cafes are a big win

The cafe culture, especially around Auroville, is really nice. You’ll find great coffee and food at surprisingly good prices.

6. Instagram-famous cafes are a disappointment

The fancy cafes you often see on Instagram are decent, but many can feel a little overrated and overpriced.

7. Cannot drink near Auroville

If you’re staying in a hostel around the Auroville area, drinking is not allowed there.

8. Plan your Auroville experience

If you want to explore the real Auroville, it’s better to plan things in advance. You can also stay at Auroville guest houses, but you’ll need to book ahead.

9. Perfect for surfing

If surfing is on your list, Pondicherry is a great place to start. The waves are good, the beaches aren’t too crowded, and you can ride the waves all the way to the shore. Just keep an eye out for jellyfish!
