Punjab Floods: 29 Deaths, 2.56 Lakh Injured In Worst Floods In 40 Yrs; Sonu Sood, Sanjay Dutt Offer Support

Punjab has not experienced such severe flooding in nearly 40 years. The intense flood in the state resulted in the loss of 29 lives across 12 districts. According to the data between August 1 and September 1, Pathankot district has recorded the highest toll with six deaths caused by flooding from the Ravi river. Read to know more details. 

Punjab Witnesses Its Worst Flooding In 40 Years

Due to heavy rainfall in Himachal Pradesh and Jammu & Kashmir, the rivers and small streams in Punjab are overflowing. According to the Hindustan Times, Hoshiarpur, Amritsar, Ludhiana, Mansa, Rupnagar, and Barnala reported three deaths each. While Bathinda, Gurdaspur, Patiala, Mohali and Sangrur had one death each. The flash floods in Pathankot last week resulted in three people missing. 

The data shared by the government is shocking. It revealed that over 2.56 lakh people have been badly affected by the floods. Gurdaspur is the worst-affected with over 321 villages under water, and 1.45 lakh people affected.  In Amritsar, over 35,000 people in 88 villages are affected, whereas in Ferozepur, 24,015 people in 76 villages are affected. In Fazilka, 21,562 people in 72 villages have suffered, while Pathankot has over 15,000 affected residents in 82 villages. Even districts like Kapurthala and Hoshiarpur reported severe damage.

Celebs Praying For Punjab

The devastating flood situation in Punjab has caused widespread loss of life and left the state in turmoil. The situation has drawn national attention, with people across the country praying for a swift recovery. Even celebrities have taken to X (formerly Twitter) to extend their support for Punjab.

Taking to his X handle, actor Sanjay Dutt expressed his grief and added that he will support the affected people in Punjab in every way he can. He even offered prayers for the safety of the people.

Former cricketer Virrendra Sehwag also shared his concern and wrote, “My prayers are with everyone in Punjab facing the fury of floods. May you find safety, strength, and support in these testing times. Wishing all the very best to the brave teams on the ground.”

 Sonu Sood, who is known for his generous efforts to help people, has also extended his support to Punjab and mentioned that he stands with the state. He also stated that if anyone needs his help, they can message him directly.
