To improve arterial roads across the capital, the Public Works Department (PWD) has launched a new project. Worth ₹61.5 crore, the initiative aims to redevelop and recarpet nine key stretches in south and southeast Delhi. Here is the complete list of roads that will soon undergo redevelopment.
PWD Plans Major Road Redevelopment In Delhi

PWD has proposed a comprehensive overhaul of damaged arterial roads across Delhi, which see heavy traffic daily. As per a report by Hindustan Times, the authorities have initiated a project worth ₹61.5 crore to redevelop roads riddled with potholes, cracks, and persistent bottlenecks.
Nine stretches, mostly under the South East Delhi division, will be strengthened and recarpeted under this initiative. Moreover, the project is expected to take several months. Bids for the revamp have been called and are likely to be finalised by October 18.

List Of 9 Roads That Will Be Recarpeted
Since these roads carry heavy daily traffic, commuters can expect some disruptions. Here is the full list of roads set to be recarpeted:
- 5.3 km of Ring Road from AIIMS to Ashram Chowk; estimated cost ₹29 crore
- 2.65 km stretch from DPS, Mathura Road to Ashram Chowk
- 0.65 km stretch from Mathura Road to Nizamuddin Railway Station (DDA Road)
- 0.7 km road connecting Maharani Bagh to Manokamana Mandir in Sunlight Colony
- 2 km Barapullah Phase-2 elevated corridor from INA to Jawaharlal Nehru (JLN) Stadium; redevelopment cost ₹8 crore
- 2.15 km stretch on Captain Gaur Marg from Modi Mill to Ring Road; estimated cost ₹8.82 crore
- 0.25 km stretch on Mother Dairy Road
- 0.45 km stretch on Dharamvir Maan Marg
- In addition to these 8 roads, an arterial road connecting Ashram Chowk will also be revamped.
These roads are among Delhi’s most congested traffic nodes and also cater to interstate traffic. Some connect Delhi to Noida. A PWD official told HT that redevelopment work will be done in phases to minimise traffic impact. However, temporary disruptions should be expected. Authorities also plan to carry out cold milling and recarpeting at night to further reduce traffic issues.
Rajeev Jain, a trader in Lajpat Nagar, shared with HT that these roads remain packed with vehicles, and potholes worsen traffic movement. He also complained about damaged street furniture and defunct streetlights on some of these stretches.
