Ranveer Singh Offers Prayers At Chamundeshwari Temple Amid Don 3 Exit & Kantara Controversy

There was no dramatic convoy, no barricaded temple entrance and certainly no celebrity spectacle unfolding on top of Chamundi Hills. At around 7:30 on Tuesday morning, Ranveer Singh walked into the Sri Chamundeshwari Temple in Mysuru wearing a mask, keeping his head down enough that many devotees around him reportedly did not recognise him immediately. By the time whispers began spreading through the temple corridors, the actor had already spent several minutes inside offering prayers. The timing, though, ensured the visit would not remain private for long.

Ranveer Singh Visits Mysuru’s Chamundeshwari Temple

Just a day earlier, the Federation of Western India Cine Employees (FWICE) had announced a non-cooperation directive against Ranveer Singh after the turbulence surrounding his reported exit from Don 3. Simultaneously, his name had become tangled in conversations online over the “Kantara Daiva” controversy, a discourse that had already spilled far beyond film circles and into debates about faith, culture, and respect for traditions. 

Once visuals from the temple surfaced online, people immediately began assigning meanings to the visit. Some called it damage control, while others described it as a spiritual act of atonement. A few saw it as a man retreating into faith while public noise swirled around him. The truth is probably known only to Ranveer Singh himself.

Temple officials later confirmed that the actor entered the shrine “like a common devotee.” M.J. Roopa, secretary of the Sri Chamundeshwari Kshetra Development Authority, told local media that the visit lasted roughly ten minutes. According to The Times of India, staff members recognised him only later and welcomed him with a garland.

The Sri Chamundeshwari Temple is not merely another famous religious stop where public figures arrive seeking symbolic blessings before a film release or political campaign. The temple sits atop Chamundi Hills, overlooking Mysuru from nearly 3,300 feet above sea level, and holds centuries of mythology, devotion, and royal history within its granite walls.

The shrine is dedicated to Goddess Chamundeshwari, the fierce form of Durga believed to have slain Mahishasura, the buffalo-headed demon whose name is woven into Mysuru’s own identity. Even today, the giant Mahishasura statue standing on Chamundi Hills has become one of the city’s most recognisable visual symbols.

For devotees, the temple is also one of the significant Shakti Peethas associated with the Krouncha Pitha tradition. Hindu belief holds that when Goddess Sati’s body was dismembered, different parts fell across the subcontinent, creating sacred sites charged with divine feminine energy. 

Chamundi Hills is believed to be one such location where a strand of Sati’s hair fell. 

The structure carries the fingerprints of multiple eras. Historians trace the temple’s origins back to the 12th century, though later dynasties, including the Hoysalas, Vijayanagara rulers, and the Wadiyars of Mysuru, expanded and patronised it across centuries. The seven-tiered Dravidian-style gopuram rises sharply against the hilltop skyline, while the long climb of roughly a thousand stone steps leading upward has become part pilgrimage, part endurance ritual for devotees. During Mysuru Dasara, the temple becomes electrically alive. 

Against that backdrop, Ranveer Singh’s visit inevitably became larger than a celebrity stopping at a temple between headlines.
