Silchar–Sairang Passenger Train Launched
On Monday, Chief Minister Lalduhoma and Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw officially flagged off the first Silchar–Sairang passenger train, reported Northeast Today. And do you know what change it will bring? This launch gives Assam’s Barak Valley its first direct rail link to Mizoram’s capital, Aizawl. The Northeast Frontier Railway started the service from Sairang Railway Station at 12 noon.
According to India Today NE, Rajya Sabha MP Kanad Purkayastha actively supported the project and helped move it forward. Minister Vaishnaw revealed how this new train route will improve connectivity and make travel between the two states smoother and easier for everyone. And we are surely looking forward to it.

How Will It Change Travel For Passengers?
Railway officials believe this new train will truly change how people travel between Assam and Mizoram. Divisional Railway Manager Samir Lohani from the Lumding Division called it a big milestone for the region’s socio-economic growth. He explained that the service will boost trade, tourism, and overall connectivity between the two states. With better rail access, businesses can transport goods more easily. At the same time, how can we forget that Mizoram’s scenic spots may attract more tourists?
For passengers, this train can make a real difference. How? According to Syllad, people will no longer have to rely only on long and tiring road journeys via difficult hilly terrain. And the other cherry on top is that the direct rail connection offers a more comfortable and affordable option, reducing travel stress and enhancing safety. Moreover, students travelling for studies, traders moving for business, government employees on duty, and families visiting relatives will find the journey smoother. In short, this train does not just connect two places; it makes everyday travel easier for many people.
