Delhi’s pollution problem has always been a topic of discussion. While many people keep complaining on social media about how difficult it is to breathe, one unexpected post caught everyone’s attention. A man from Sweden compared Delhi’s pollution to something many often overlook — the loneliness of living abroad. Read to know more details!
Viral Sweden NRI Says Delhi’s AQI Is Preferable
A Sweden NRI, Ankur Tyagi (@TheAnkurTyagi), took to his X handle and said that people often assume life in the European Union is perfect — with clean air, smooth roads and strong systems. But he explained that the reality is very different once you start living there. He shared that he has been in the EU for over five years and has to do everything on his own, from cooking and cleaning to managing bills and raising a child. What affects him the most is the silence and loneliness that hits every winter, something he believes no one talks about enough.
He added that despite Delhi’s high pollution, he would still choose the warmth of friends and family over the loneliness abroad. According to him, India has its own problems, but at least there are people around to support you. He said that friendships in the West feel polite but distant, and real community is hard to find.
That’s why he called the comfort of home and friends “real oxygen” and said he doesn’t fear Delhi’s AQI as much as he fears being emotionally isolated in a foreign country.
Sparks Debate Online
The post comparing international places with Delhi has gone viral all over the internet, and many netizens dropped their reactions in the comments section. Here’s what they wrote:
One netizen wrote, “What we need is India’s bhaichara, combined with the civic sense and infrastructure of the West and the Far East.”
Another user added, “All places have their pros and cons. It depends on us which pros we choose to settle with.”
One X user commented, “Eight years in Paris and I agree with every word of yours. For most people, there are reasons to like and dislike both places. However, I would still choose India. I wish our political class had the will to clean up our country on a war footing. It would not only improve life significantly but also bring many people back.”
