This Scenic Gujarat Toy Train Route May Soon Turn Into A Film Shooting Hub For Movies & Ads

There are many beautiful train routes across India where passengers can enjoy breathtaking landscapes on the wheels. One such scenic ride is between Bilimora and Waghai in Gujarat. Now, to bring more attention to this route, it may soon get a Bollywood twist. Western Railway is planning to open this heritage line for film shoots to earn extra revenue. Read on to know more!

Bilimora–Waghai Line May Soon Host Film Shoots

Officials have noticed that the 63-km Bilimora–Waghai narrow-gauge line in Gujarat has breathtaking landscapes but is not used much commercially. As per The Hindu Business Line, to bring this scenic route into focus, Western Railway has decided to allow movies, web series, and ads to be shot here, which can help generate non-fare income without affecting passengers.

This beautiful route connects Bilimora to Waghai in Gujarat and passes through Navsari and Dang districts. Travellers get views of forests, rivers, and green hills along their journey. Because of this natural beauty, the railway believes filmmakers, especially from Mumbai, may find it attractive.

Passenger Rush Grows In Winter And Monsoon

On this route, only four passenger trains run as of now. However, that doesn’t stop it from attracting a mix of tourists, locals, and railway lovers. During monsoon and winter, the toy train becomes especially popular and often runs with four general coaches and one or two AC coaches.

The railways felt the need to level up their game as they want to earn more from non-ticket sources and use existing assets better. According to The Hindu Business Line, the zone has already seen success in this space. Western Railway earned ₹1.72 crore from film shooting in 2025–26. This marks a 25% increase from the previous year and stands among the highest earnings in the country.

This train also carries historical value. It dates back to the early 1900s under the Gaekwar’s Baroda State Railway. It reached Waghai around 1913 to improve access to the forested Dang region.
