A meal often feels incomplete without dessert, and many of us already have our favourites—especially the classic and iconic ones. In TasteAtlas’ ‘100 Best Desserts to Taste In 2026’ list, two Indian desserts have proudly made the cut. One of them is the much-loved kulfi, which stands at the 49th position.
Kulfi is a traditional Indian ice cream made by slowly cooking full-cream milk until it turns thick and rich. This slow process gives it a nutty, caramel-like flavour. It is set in cone-shaped moulds and flavoured with pistachio, saffron, rose water, or fruits. Kulfi is believed to have originated during the Mughal era in the Himalayan region.
The other Indian dessert on the list is phirni, which ranked on the 60th spot. Also known as rice pudding, phirni is made by cooking ground rice in milk and flavouring it with cardamom, saffron, and almonds. Popular in North India, it is often prepared during festivals like Diwali and Karwa Chauth. It is served chilled in clay bowls and topped with nuts, rose petals, and sometimes silver leaf for a rich finish.
