In a shocking incident in Mumbai, two 15-year-old girls were served beer at a famous resto-bar in Lokhandwala, Andheri West. The situation escalated when the girls began feeling dizzy and vomiting on their way home, leading to their hospitalisation. Here’s what happened.
Underage Girls Allegedly Served Beer In Mumbai
Two 15-year-old girls started vomiting after consuming beer in Mumbai and were immediately rushed to the hospital. The police have begun an investigation and registered a case against the manager and staff of Hops Kitchen & Bar in Lokhandwala. The bar allegedly served alcohol to minors, which is a violation of the law, reported Mid-Day. The incident came to light on October 16 when the Oshiwara Police received a call from Cooper Hospital about two teenage girls who had consumed alcohol.
The police filed the FIR after receiving a call from the hospital at around 3.10 am. The preliminary investigation revealed that the girls, residents of Goregaon East, had gone out to celebrate with friends. A 21-year-old gym receptionist and another friend accompanied them.
The four friends met at Hops Kitchen & Bar around 10.30 pm on October 15. The group ordered food and drinks, including beer. According to the police, the girls claimed they drank only half a glass of beer along with a soft drink. After finishing dinner, they left the bar around 12.30 am and headed towards Goregaon in an autorickshaw. On the way, both girls started feeling unwell and began vomiting. Their friends quickly took them to Cooper Hospital, where they were admitted around 2.30 am for treatment.
Police Begins Investigation
As the teenagers were served alcohol, which is against the law, the city police have registered a case and initiated an investigation. Addressing the incident, the bar manager in talks with Mid-Day said that the girls looked young, which is why the staff had asked for their ID cards. Reportedly, the documents they provided showed they were above the age of 21, so the bar served them beer and a fruit-flavoured alcoholic drink. He added that everything was recorded on the bar’s CCTV cameras.
The manager also mentioned that they are fully cooperating with the police and stated that if the girls had used fake IDs, then the restaurant was not at fault.
This incident has raised serious concerns about how effectively age restrictions are being enforced at bars and restaurants. It also brought to the spotlight the need for stricter monitoring and accountability.
