On Tuesday evening, when thousands of people were heading home after work, Namma Metro stopped working. Why? A technical snag on the Purple Line around 6:30 PM disrupted services. Due to this, several commuters were left stranded across stations. As per India Today, the problem was first noticed in a train at Cubbon Park Metro Station.
What made the situation more stressful was that the Purple Line is one of Bengaluru’s busiest metro routes. It is used by thousands of people every day, especially those travelling to and from Whitefield. So, when the technical issue occurred, it created a major problem for commuters.
BMRCL revealed that metro services were suspended between Majestic and MG Road while repair teams worked on fixing the issue. Reports suggest that the snag may have been connected to the third rail system.
How People Travelled After The Metro Disruption
After the metro services were disrupted, commuters looked for alternative travel options. The demand for auto-rickshaws and cabs increased, and they were unable to handle the sudden surge. Several videos from the incident quickly went viral on social media. The clips showed stranded passengers climbing onto lorries and trucks to get rides home.
BMRCL said its teams were working quickly to fix the issue and bring metro services back to normal. The corporation also asked passengers to cooperate and use other travel options until the services resumed.
