India’s railway network is expanding, and with every new journey, travellers get to enjoy scenic routes and serene surroundings. Now, another milestone has been added as a Vande Bharat Express train crossed the Chenab Rail Bridge at nearly 100 kmph for the first time. Read on to know more! 

Vande Bharat Speeds At Nearly 100 Kmph On Chenab Bridge

Many videos are going viral online showing a Vande Bharat Express train running at around 100 kmph on the Chenab Rail Bridge. As per Free Press Journal, the bridge stands 359 metres above the Chenab River and is also the world’s highest railway arch bridge. It is taller than the Eiffel Tower, making the train’s journey across it a memorable sight.

Talking about the 100 kmph speed, this milestone comes after the Railway Ministry approved a higher speed limit for trains on the newly built broad gauge railway section connecting Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Katra and Banihal. With this bridge and railway line, the government aims to connect the Kashmir Valley with the rest of the country.

More About This Milestone

This 111-km railway section is part of Northern Railway’s Jammu Division. After the latest approval, you’ll be thrilled to know that trains between Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Katra and Banihal can now run at a maximum speed of 100 kmph. Earlier, trains could run at speeds of up to 85 kmph between Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Katra and Sangaldan. On the Sangaldan-Banihal stretch, the speed limit was 75 kmph. 

The train’s speed has increased after the necessary safety checks were completed. Northern Railway approved this advancement after the train passed all the required safety checks. With the new speed limit, trains can now reach their destinations more quickly.
