Amul, India’s dairy giant, is planning something big. It is committing ₹600 crore to construct the world’s largest curd manufacturing plant in Howrah, West Bengal. The facility will have the capacity to produce 10 lakh kilograms of dahi, mishti doi, yoghurt, lassi and buttermilk every single day. Here’s everything you need to know about this curd plant!

West Bengal Is Set To Get The World’s Largest Curd Manufacturing Plant

West Bengal is known for its love for curd, especially its mishti doi. And now, Howrah in West Bengal is all set to get what will be the world’s largest curd manufacturing plant. According to News18, the announcement was formalised at the Bengal Global Business Summit 2025 in Kolkata. Amul MD Jayen Mehta confirmed that the facility will come up at Sankrail Food Park in Howrah.

Let us tell you that it is not just a curd plant but a fully integrated dairy complex. It will produce 10 lakh kilograms of dahi, mishti doi and more every day. Not just that, but the facility will also be equipped to process 15 lakh litres of milk daily, along with manufacturing ice cream, paneer, ghee, flavoured milk and UHT milk.

The Facility Will Produce Several Dairy Products

According to News18, the curd plant in West Bengal will be built in two phases by the Kaira District Cooperative Milk Producers’ Union, the Anand-based arm behind Amul’s manufacturing. Reportedly, Amul is the largest fresh milk brand in West Bengal and sells over one million litres of milk every day. The brand has a milk procurement network spanning 14 districts with over 1.2 lakh women milk producers.

The curd plant will produce a wide range of dairy products for Kolkatans. The facility will serve Kolkata and neighbouring districts first. After that, it will strengthen Amul’s foothold across Eastern India. Products will be made locally and are expected to be fresh for consumers.
