As the festive season inches closer, Western Railway has thoughtfully slotted in an extra train between Bandra Terminus and Bhavnagar to handle the crowds that spill over every year. The service, which runs on special fare, is expected to ease the crush of passengers making their way home from Mumbai to Gujarat.

According to The Free Press Journal, Train No. 09210 Bhavnagar–Bandra Special leaves Bhavnagar on Friday, August 29 at 8:20 pm, reaching Mumbai the next morning at 10:20 am. A day later, Train No. 09209 does the opposite run, pulling out of Bandra Terminus on Saturday, August 30 at 1:50 pm and rolling into Bhavnagar at 4:30 am.
This is not just an express that zips through; its route is dotted with stops that matter to smaller towns along the Gujarat coast. The train halts at the following stations:
- Borivali
- Palghar
- Vapi
- Valsad
- Navsari
- Surat
- Bharuch
- Vadodara
- Ahmedabad
- Viramgam
- Surendranagar Gate
- Botad
- Dhola
- Songadh
- Sihor
- Bhavnagar Para
For passengers in these towns, the special could be the only chance to dodge waitlists on regular services.
Inside the rake, Western Railway looks like this: AC 2-Tier, AC 3-Tier, AC 3-Tier (Economy), Sleeper and General coaches. This arrangement allows enough air-conditioned seats for those willing to pay, but plenty of sleeper and general berths for budget travellers.

Where And How To Book The Bandra-Bhavnagar Train
Bookings open on Sunday, August 24, both online via IRCTC and at PRS counters. With demand usually peaking weeks in advance, seats on this one are likely to vanish quickly.
Railway officials admit these special runs have become routine and say that every festival, they see trains packed far beyond capacity, especially to Gujarat. Extra services like this are the only way to manage the rush, according to them, as stated by The Free Press Journal.
For passengers, the timing couldn’t be better. An overnight ride means professionals can leave after work and be home in time for morning tea. Families, too, will find the schedules workable with early arrivals, late departures, and no midday waste of travel.

This initiative is like a pressure valve for a corridor that groans under demand every festival season. Regulars on the route know, without these seasonal extras, a confirmed ticket would be nothing short of a miracle.
