What Is Dooring? How To Prevent Accidents Caused By It?

dooring accidents

Every day in India, accidents happen in different parts of the country. The reasons vary — overspeeding, brake failure, or sometimes even a small mistake. Recently, a video went viral on the internet where an X user shared footage of an accident And one word in the post caught everyone’s attention — “Dooring.” Scroll down to know what it is!

What Is Dooring?

An X user, Manas Muduli  (@manas_muduli), took to his social media handle to share footage of an accident. In the video, a car can be seen stopping on the road. Moments later, a passenger inside suddenly opens the door. This unexpected move causes a biker coming from behind to lose balance and fall, leading to an accident.

While sharing the clip, the user explained that this type of incident is called “Dooring” and described it as a silent killer on the road. Dooring happens when someone inside a parked or halted car opens the door without checking for oncoming traffic. If a cyclist, biker, or another vehicle is passing at that moment, they may crash straight into the door. Since it happens suddenly, the person behind gets very little time to react. This can result in serious injuries and major accidents.

How To Prevent These Accidents?

To prevent dooring, drivers and passengers should always check their mirrors before opening the car door. They should also turn their head and look over their shoulder to see if any cyclists or vehicle is approaching. Opening the door slowly instead of pushing it wide open at once can also reduce the risk of sudden accidents.

Cyclists and bikers can also stay alert while riding near parked vehicles. They should maintain a safe distance from cars lined up on the roadside whenever possible. Slowing down in crowded areas and watching for movement inside parked cars can help them react quickly and avoid crashing into an unexpectedly opened door.

Next time you’re driving, be aware of your surroundings.
