It looks like Bengaluru women have found a new obsession: Mysore silk sarees. Videos are going viral on social media showing women queuing outside the Karnataka Silk Industries Corporation showroom in the city. Many of them reportedly started lining up as early as 4 am just to get their hands on authentic Mysore silk sarees. Here’s what netizens are saying.
Bengaluru Women Queue Up At 4 AM For Mysore Silk Sarees
We all have something we would stand in a queue for. For some, it could be food, books, or even a smartphone. But a viral video shows Bengaluru women queueing outside Karnataka Silk Industries Corporation (KSIC) showrooms to buy authentic Mysore silk sarees. These sarees are not just six yards of fabric. Their quality and craftsmanship are what set them apart. An X user also shared the video of women waiting outside the showroom and wrote, “What draws them so early? Tradition. Authenticity. Love passed down generations. In an age of instant fashion, this quiet line speaks of devotion — to craft, culture, and timeless beauty,” and we agree.
According to a report by News18, Mysore silk sarees are priced between ₹23,000 and ₹2.5 lakh. So why are women lining up? Reportedly, there is an ongoing shortage of authentic Mysore silk sarees, especially those produced by KSIC. KSIC holds official production rights and GI-tag certification for pure Mysore silk sarees.
Token System Introduced
The video shows a long queue. It is not just young women waiting. Elderly women can also be seen sitting on plastic chairs, waiting patiently as if this is something they are completely used to. As per a report by News18, the surge in demand has forced KSIC to tighten its purchase process. The corporation has introduced a strict token system. Only customers with tokens are allowed inside the showroom. Furthermore, each buyer is limited to purchasing a single saree. This means shoppers can not hoard multiple pieces of Mysore silk sarees!
These steps are being taken to ensure fairness, prevent hoarding, and streamline the buying process as Mysore silk sarees continue to grow in popularity across India. Netizens were quick to react in the comments section. One user wrote, “At least it’s not a queue outside an Apple store.” Another commented, “Authenticity comes at a cost and sometimes a long queue.” A third user added, “Good things come to those who wait.”
