Not just us, but many people have wardrobes filled with old clothes that eventually end up in the dustbin. But now, the Delhi Metro is making an effort to ensure these clothes are recycled and recreated instead. A post recently caught attention after an X user spotted a recycling booth at a Delhi Metro station and appreciated the initiative. Read on to know more!

X User Appreciates Clothes Recycling Box At Delhi Metro

X user Bhaumik Gowande (@bhaumikgowande) took to his social media handle to share one of the best things he saw at Delhi Metro. He shared photos of a clothes recycling box at Lajpat Nagar Metro Station and was impressed by the initiative. In the post, he mentioned that textiles make up 12–17% of dry municipal solid waste in Delhi-NCR. And so, these recycling boxes can make a huge difference.

But he also made one suggestion. According to him, these recycling boxes should be expanded beyond Delhi Metro. Placing them at RWA markets, malls and affluent neighbourhoods can be beneficial because plenty of clothes are discarded from these places.

Recycling Boxes At 10 Metro Stations

A few months back, the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) planned to add 10 recycling boxes at 10 Delhi Metro stations. At these stations, people can bring their old, unwanted clothes to donate, recycle and recreate. They can be turned into useful products like bags and rugs. Clothes that cannot be reused will be sent to recycling units, where they can be turned into yarn, fibre and non-woven felt. This way, less goes to waste.

The selected metro stations include Shahdara, Mohan Estate, Rohini West, Lajpat Nagar, Malviya Nagar, Mayur Vihar Phase-1, Hauz Khas, Punjabi Bagh West, Dwarka and Shalimar Bagh. So, if you have old clothes makes sure you don’t put them in dustbin but instead put them in better use.
