How Kashi Vishwanath Temple Celebrates Nautapa?

As Nautapa began on May 25, a special abhishekam of the Shivling in Kashi Vishwanath Temple started with different fruit juices. This traditional ritual takes place every year to offer relief and coolness to Lord Vishwanath during the harsh summer days. Devotees also believe that the ritual provides a feeling of calmness and comfort among people during the extreme heat.
On the first day of Nautapa, priests performed the abhishekam of Lord Shri Visheshwar using the juices of rose, lychee, and mango. Many people are sharing pictures of the ritual on social media, showing the fruit juice abhishekam and highlighting its spiritual significance.
For How Long Will Fruit Juice Abhishekam Continue?
This fruit juice abhishekam ritual does not take place only on the first day. Instead, it will continue for all nine days of Nautapa. Nautapa began on May 25, which means the ritual will continue till June 2. This nine-day period starts when the Sun enters Rohini Nakshatra during the month of Jyeshtha.
Astrologers believe Nautapa is especially significant this year because it is occurring during Adhik Maas, which people consider rare. According to traditional beliefs, the extreme heat during Nautapa helps control pests, insects and harmful organisms. Experts also believe this year may witness stronger heatwaves, with temperatures reaching up to 48°C to 50°C in some regions.
