Train travel in India isn’t just about reaching the destination; the journey itself is a major highlight, and food has always been a big part of it. From parathas to aloo sabzi and puri, families have packed and enjoyed these meals for ages while travelling. Taking this a step further, a woman recently went viral for cooking Maggi inside a train using a kettle! The internet, as you can imagine, has a lot to say about this ‘travel hack’.

A video shared by @WokePandemic shows a woman, most likely travelling in the AC coach of an express train, cooking Maggi noodles in an electric kettle. She was using the train’s charging point for this, which is designed to support low-power gadgets.
According to The Free Press Journal, the woman, speaking in Marathi, says, “The kitchen is anywhere and everywhere.” She adds that she doesn’t “get a holiday even on a trip,” and is even heard mentioning that she will prepare tea for “at least 15 people” using the same kettle.
Netizens Share Their Two Cents On This ‘Travel Hack’
The woman’s attempt to cook Maggi in an electric kettle on a train has gone viral, but not for the right reasons. The internet is calling it a major safety hazard and pointed out how such callous behaviour could put fellow passengers at risk.
“This is a major safety hazard and can cause fire, endangering the lives of all onboard. That’s why we cannot have good things. Many will misuse the facilities and then be proud of it. Most lack civil sense,” one X user said.
Another online user commented, “Play with fire, risk hundreds of lives… but sure, let’s be proud of the ‘Jugaad.’ This is exactly why good facilities never last here – zero civic sense, maximum misuse.”
“The train travel hack to cook food in your compartment is not okay and is illegal under Indian Railway regulations,” one of the comments read.
Highlighting previous such incidents, one netizen said, “Trains are public transport with strict safety protocols. Personal cooking appliances like portable stoves or hot plates pose significant fire risks and could overload the train’s electrical system.”
