On a very special Sunday Brunch episode, our Editor-in-Chief Kamiya Jani visited Imtiaz Ali’s office for a special chat with the ace director and Sharvari and Vedang Raina, the cast of his upcoming film Main Vaapas Aaunga. From getting a sneak peek into his thought process to his love for travel, this episode is an ode to Imtiaz Ali’s fans.
Sunday Brunch At Window Seat
At Imtiaz Ali’s office, ‘Window Seat’, Kamiya Jani felt she was on a “safar” (journey). The Tamasha director revealed the reason behind the intriguing name. “Window seat makes you glimpse into a life that’s not your own,” he says with a depth only an Imtiaz Ali can exude.
Interestingly, Curly Tales discovered that before becoming a filmmaker, Imtiaz Ali had lived many lives. That of an advertising and marketing professional, teacher, and waiter. While he didn’t continue in those fields, the director admitted to having applied and even briefly pursued these jobs. Imtiaz completed an advertising and marketing course to bag a job, which he didn’t get.

Imtiaz Ali Almost Became An English Teacher
To earn some extra money during his college days, he took up a teaching gig. And almost became an English teacher. The director also got a job as a waiter at Le Meridien Hotel. However, none of these jobs materialised. As Imtiaz wasn’t interested in becoming a teacher. While he was interested in being part of the hospitality industry, the tiring bus journey to reach the hotel demotivated him. Eventually, Imtiaz ended up doing a play, and the rest is history.
Perhaps, it’s a stroke of destiny that his plans of becoming a marketing professional, teacher and an actor were stalled. Vedang Raina and Sharvari were surprised to know about Imtiaz Ali’s “almost gigs” before his foray into the film industry.
