Indian Railways To Discontinue Travel Insurance Free From September 2018

While booking from the mobile app or the website, you will get an option to opt out of the travel insurance fee by Indian Railways from 1st September. 

What Is It?

IRCTC has decided to stop the travel insurance fee from 1st September. Now the passengers booking tickets will be allowed an option to opt out of the travel insurance fee, which was earlier a mandatory fee. The travel insurance fee started in Dec 2017 and has been waived off now. IRCTC has also decided to cancel the booking fee for anyone using a debit card to book their tickets.

What Else?

If you’re choosing to opt for the travel insurance, IRCTC will provide an insurance of ₹10 lakh for a death due to railway injury, ₹7.5 lakh insurance if the person gets disabled, ₹2 lakh if injured and ₹10,000 for transportation of remains of the dead body.
